The Portuguese cultural center celebrated its 31 anniversary.
In
1980 the Portuguese cultural center was built.
Some of the
community events that have taken place in the past were in honor of our lady of
Fatima and in honor of Portugal Day.
The event
of our lady of Fatima begun with, a mass and a procession and then went on to a
dinner and a dance.
But a lot
of work went into this event such as:

to the priest

the community council for authorization to close
streets for the procession
·
getting
a band
·
the
cooks
·
flyers
·
banners
·
decoration
·
costumes
·
tickets
How the events are passed on to others not only by facebook but also using other types
of media such as the newspapers and even the catholic churches weekly news
letter, but when such events have to do with religious causes or community fund
raising.

ResponderEliminarAcho a tua ideia muito interessante, pois existe uma enorme comunidade portuguesa no estrangeiro (penso que estejas a falar do Canadá) tendo em conta que somos um país com uma grande taxa de emigração.
As comunidades portuguesas realizam estes eventos para se sentirem mais próximas de Portugal. Alguns destes eventos são religiosos, como referiste no teu esquema, mas em muitas destas comunidades realizam também eventos populares, que caracterizam as festas populares, as danças folclóricas ou o fado que tão bem representam a cultura portuguesa.
Acho que a criação destas comunidades é muito importante para as pessoas que nelas vivem, mas por outro lado é também uma maneira de levar a cultura portuguesa "além fronteiras". É também uma forma de os filhos dos emigrantes, que acabam por nascer no estrangeiro, conhecerem o país de onde vêm os seus antecendentes e poderem ser também um pouco portugueses.
